Don’t worry if you don’t know what to do as an adult beginner in dance—that’s what we’re here for—helping you learning ballet. We get you moving right away and you feel like you are in New York taking a ballet class—but with teens, college students and adults. We’ve even had a great, great grandmother take this class and we are always in awe!
Since Christine Rich Studio is known in Champaign, Urbana, Savoy for its school of ballet and outstanding professional teachers, you’re dance training is in the best hands!
You’ll start just like any professional ballet school at the “barre” doing foundational ballet movements such as plies, tendus, jetes…all of those French ballet terms that you get to learn. These classes answer the question “can adults learn ballet?” and the answer is YES!
That’s what is so terrific about Adult Ballet Classes—you get a physical workout (yes you’ll feel all your muscles working), you get to hear beautiful classical music, you get to hear how ballet dancers develop and you get the mental knowledge such as the French ballet terminology.
Then after ballet barre, you’ll move to the middle of the large, spacious classroom to do ballet steps there. You really start to feel like a ballerina right there in the adult ballet class.
We’ve even had seriously trained dancers, who are busy working by day and raising children and they just love to come to our ballet classes for adults because of the friendship and celebration amongst all of the students regardless of their level.
There’s online ballet dictionaries to study up (but of course you don’t have to because these classes are fun). Here’s one from American Ballet Theater (where one of our ballet teachers trained at).
You’ll have the option of wearing a leotard and tights or if you prefer, you can wear fitted leggings and a fitted top for your ballet classes. You can also wear the short chiffon ballet skirt too.
Here in the pink sleeves is the great, great grandmother we spoke of earlier. Look at that beautiful leg kick!!! We love her!

Of course you’ll need ballet slippers. They are pale pink and very fitted. Austin’s Sportswear in downtown Champaign specializes in selling ballet clothing and will get you fitted in your adult ballet leotard, tights and the ballet slippers and show you how they work.
The Adult’s Ballet Class students become fast buddies and often arrive 20 minutes early to chat in the hallway and stretch out before class (unless they are in another class like Tap, Jazz or a Stretch or Strength Fitness Class).
And our Adult Ballet Division operates in the summer, the fall, winter and spring with its training for adults in ballet. We want you to feel your best.

One more thing to consider: CRS offers Private Ballet Lessons for you to. You can have a private ballet lesson for 30 minutes once or twice a week, or a one hour private ballet lesson.
