Ballet dance is foundational for most dance schools around the world. Ballet classes at our ballet school here at Christine Rich Studio Dance Academy are not only fun, but they also develop a well-round dancer since most of our students study ballet and jazz, tap, Modern dance, or acrobatics.
If you’ve ever watched So You Think You Can Dance on TV, you’ll hear the dance judges tell the dancers that they need to take more classes in ballet. Even when they are dancing amazingly well, there is a certain refinement that you can always see in a dance student who has had the best ballet lessons.
Grace, good posture, elegance, beauty are some of the traits most anyone can spot in a well-trained ballet dancer.
As a ballet academy we make sure that our ballet and dance students are confident, happy, and technically correct having the proper ballet and dance skills to attend a major dance college or professional ballet company.
Christine Rich Studio starts ballet lessons by serving beginners of all ages.
We have Fairy Tale Ballet for ages 3-6. Our Pre-Ballet for ages 4-6 is by placement from a teacher for beginners or continuing ballet students.
Next we teach our Beginners ages 6 through 12 in one of our adventurous, fun-filled Ballet Survivor Island Classes.
For our older ballet classes for beginners we have our popular Adult Ballet for beginners ages 14 and up.
We love our beginning ballet students!
Of course, once a ballet student advances out of the beginning classes for ballet we have a complete Ballet I-VI set of ballet classes taught with the historic Vaganova (Russian) classical ballet method which is known throughout the world for producing ballet dancers of the highest quality.
Christine Rich Studio has a long tradition over three decades of providing the best world-class ballet training right here as a local dance studio with our ballet. Champaign, Urbana, Savoy and the surrounding areas as far as Danville, Charleston and Gibson City have families attending our ballet school because of its quality ballet lessons.
Ballet is very popular in foreign countries such as Russia, China, Korea, Japan, Brazil, Italy and France to name a few. We’ve had our share of ballet teachers from around the world.
Ballet dancing is considered a classic art. Unlike hip hop that is newer, ballet has tradition and etiquette to learn which makes it extra beneficial…you learn dance, you learn a performance art and you learn the oldest classical stage: ballet.
But just because it has historical roots, it’s far from boring. There is pantomime to learn, performance fun, leaping through the air and spinning on the ball of the foot (or later, in a pointe shoe aka “up on the toes”).
Our ballet program is known for its superior training and training that is recognized throughout the country by ballet professionals.
We know that most parents can’t imagine their little toddler could ever be a gifted ballerina-in-training. But for those students who stick with dance, even teenagers, the progress within our ballet classes is outstanding. They always do make it to the advanced level.
Students seeking other benefits from ballet training besides a professional level will profit immensely from correct training. They will have more options as a young adult.
They’ll feel qualities that they would not have gained without dance classes done right: time management (our Excellence Program students are at the top of their class academically), self-confidence (having weekly age-appropriate challenges in the ballet syllabus and in an old-fashioned atmosphere), leadership skills (take charge of practicing, remembering steps and pride in their efforts—all positive traits for school and their adult life), fitness and perseverance.
The Christine Rich Studio Dance Academy ballet class program is also recognized for its training excellence beginning at young ages through a careful laying of the very best foundation. Our classes are taught by dedicated professionals. The attention and old-fashioned expectations in our classrooms produce exceptional results.

BALLET DANCEWEAR: Like most ballet schools, Christine Rich Studio Dance Academy has a Dress Code. Visit the Reference Documents section in the middle of our ENROLL NOW! page for Dress Code details.
For the female ballet student, we ask for a black leotard without sleeves, classic pale pink ballet tights, and the standard pale pink ballet slippers. The ballet slippers can be leather, but most students choose the canvas “split sole” slipper. It should fit snug like a sock. Many ballet slippers for non-toddlers will require that you sew the elastic strap to the slipper. This is because each dancer will form a preference as to where and how snug they want the elastic.
For the male ballet student, we ask for a white short-sleeved leotard (or fitted white T-Shirt for young boys) with black fitted shorts and black or white slippers with or without white ankle socks.
All of these can be purchased from Austin’s Sportswear in Downtown Champaign, IL for all your dance clothing for ballet class including pointe shoes.
The hair for the female students is worn in a smooth, slicked back ballet bun.
