From Eye On Urbana
November 2002
Christine Rich, owner of Christine Rich Dance Studio has been invited back as a choreographer for Dance Chicago 2002 at the Athenaeum Theater in Chicago. Christine has choreographed three world premieres which will debut there this month.
As the winner of 2001 Dance Slam, Christine Rich was asked to choreograph a piece to appear in this year’s festival. Christine enthusiastically set about choreographing a concert dance piece and decided on multigenerational jazz choreography with a story line set to music by Michael Jackson.
“It is an honor to be on this program alongside Chicago’s greats,” said Rich.
Since Christine Rich Studio is the official school of Christine Rich Dance Theater, Andrew Cribbett and Becky Ramos, who are students of CRS, will also be dancing.
Dance Chicago is the largest dance festival in the country for professional dance companies and choreographers, and is held annually over a five-week period each November. New dance companies must audition with a pre-approved appearance in the Dance Slam program during the festival. The winner of Dance Slam is then invited back the following year.
Rich decided that she would incorporate her other passion of choreographing concert dance through the Christine Rich Dance Theater. Dance Chicago 2002 will be an enormously beneficial experience not only for our CRS students who are performing, but for our other students (who may also one day perform in this festival) to go as audience members, to watch and support everyone involved.
Christine is grateful that she can facilitate the opportunity for serious students to have the rare opportunity to dance on a professional stage with professional dancers at such an early age. Christine encourages all of our dance families to attend as much of Dance Chicago as possible as it is an excellent showcase of the best dance talents in Chicago.
